This is likely to be quite an early painting – even as early as 1911? – judging from the youthful portrayal and the costume itself. See ‘Marietta Self-Portrait – Draft’ below, which uses the same costume – the red-and-white striped scarf in particular. There are photographs of her wearing a very similar field-costume outfit on the Phytogeographical Expedition to the Broads in 1911 (see Matless & Cameron in the Bibliography).
